Manner of the Week: Hold the door open for others.
I hope you all were able to get outside and enjoy the sunshine this weekend!
PLTW: In our science we have been reading The Three Little Pigs. We then split into groups and have been drawing and discussing ideas of how they can successfully build a house either out of toothpicks (straw), popsicle sticks (sticks), or cut up sponges (bricks). They will get to put their ideas to the test tomorrow along with collaboration and perseverance to see if their idea will hold up to the "Wolf" blowing their houses down! I will post pictures when we are finished!
Kindergarten Shirts: We should have these by the end of this week or the beginning of next! We switched the company we were going through and I was actually able to find a local company to get these done for us and very quickly! :) I am excited to see how they turn out.
COFFEE WITH THE PRINCIPAL: If you would like to have coffee with Mrs. Meier this Wednesday morning at 8:30am email her in order to get your spot. This is a great time to have an opportunity to visit with her in a small group setting! :)

Manner of the Week: Show appropriate body language (no eye rolling, slumped shoulders, facial responses).
We are ready for a full week of learning! We have started learning about Structures and Functions in Science, extending our learning of addition and subtraction, and continue to work on letters and sounds to build words both in reading and writing!
BIG Goals chart- We are working on self-assessing to help the kiddos understand what their goals are and if they have reach them. We talk a lot about "targets" and they are able to verbally express to me whether they have reached their target goal or not. We recently came across a great resource to help the kiddos track this. We will be filling one out at school and I will be sending one home with them. This will give you an idea of what specifically to work on with your kiddo. When they have mastered it at school, they will fill out their form here and they then can then fill out the form at home. I also will be attaching a list of sight words to for them to work on. Please let me know if you have any questions about this. :) Your support at home is always appreciated!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
December 31st-January 4th
I want to start by saying, "Thank you!!" You are all too kind to me. I was totally spoiled by all of you. My heart is so full. I hope you all had a wonderful break. I had so much fun spending time with family and friends and I am ready to see those sweet faces tomorrow!
RECESS OUTSIDE- we will still go outside unless it is below zero so PLEASE send your kiddos with the appropriate gear. In order for them to get to play in the snow they need: snowpants, boots, gloves, and a coat. We don't want them to get cold or wet while playing so if they don't have the right gear, they will play on the blacktop and not out in the snow.
TENNIS SHOES or SLIPPERS-wearing their snowboots all day makes their feet kind of stinky. And honestly I just think it's a bit uncomfortable, so if you want to send a change of shoes or slippers for them to change in to that would be awesome. :)

December 10th-14th
Manner of the Week: Return borrowed books, permission slips, and phone calls.
Christmas Program- Is WEDNESDAY. The kiddos will sing TWICE, at 8:45 and again at 10:15. They are the SAME so no need to come to both performances. I hope you are all able to make it.
Holiday Learning Celebration- we will be doing this next Friday, December 21st. We will be learning about the Grinch and so we will wrap up our activities by watching the cartoon version of the Grinch that afternoon. I am looking for anyone who can help by sending in any of the following items:
*20 round sugar cookies (UNfrosted)
*1 container of vanilla frosting
*sprinkles (maybe 1-2 different types)
*1 box of plastic spoons
If you are able to help, please email me so I do not have too many! :) The kiddos will decorate their cookie earlier that day and then eat it during the movie!
We will continue with our ABC Bootcamp through December and come back from our Christmas break ready to tackle our reading series again. These kiddos have been working so hard on these letters and sounds. Not only recognizing and stating them, but writing them as well. I have noticed that is a struggle for many but they are persevering and are starting to form their letters quickly and beautifully! Mastering the skill of letters and sounds will make reading and writing so much easier for these kiddos. Your support and help at home is so appreciated!
Colder Weather- Please remember that we will go outside unless it is below zero or too wet. Remind your kiddos to dress for the weather as they will not get to stay inside if they forget their warmer gear.

November 26th-30th
Manner of the Week: Think before you speak. Is it true? Is it kind? Does it need to be said?
Report cards come home on Friday. Please remember that an N (needs improvement) means we are still working on some things, S (satisfactory) is right where they need to be, and G (good/above average) is where we hope they get to by the end of the year!
For academics...an E (emergent) simply means they need a little more practice on that skill, an NP (nearing proficient) means they have a little understanding of it but are still needing time to practice, and P (proficient) means they got it so let's move forward on understanding the concepts more in depth!
Most of the standards that we are assessing are not focusing on just one thing, there are multiple skills that we look at. I do not expect them to be Proficient at this point in the year and if I have any concerns I have already talked to you about them. Just continue to support your kiddos and please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Manner of the Week: Do not bully, threat, or intimidate
Happy Monday! We continued our learning with pumpkins this past week! We attempted a pumpkin volcano, but it just sort of oozed out the mouth not really "erupting" :) But what a great learning opportunity for us to show that things don't always go as planned!
Our Halloween Learning Celebration was a success, and a bit quicker than in years past! :) The moms that came in to volunteer did a great job of leading their groups of kiddos! Thanks again for all the help!
ABC Bootcamp. We are going to take a little break from our Wonders curriculum to focus on an ABC Bootcamp. It will be one letter a day with us focusing on letters, sounds, handwriting and integrating fun crafts to go along with it. This will allow us to formally teach every letter and sound to help your child become the best reader and writer they can be. If we were to continue on at the pace we are, it will be impossible for some of these kiddos to become readers and writers before first grade. Like I talked about at Open House, all kiddos learn at different paces so with that I do have some that have a pretty good understanding of their letters and sounds. I will have them do some of the activities with us because it is always good to review, but I will continue to challenge them in areas needed! :)
This week is a weird week with conferences. Your kiddos will be dismissed by NOON on all three days (Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday). Our conferences are only 15 minutes, so please try to be prompt and I will do the same! :)

HALLOWEEN- we will have a Halloween Learning Celebration. Your kiddos CANNOT WEAR COSTUMES to school but would love for them to participate in our spirit day of orange and black! Our celebration will be from 12-1 since it is an early out day. If you would like to help out please email me! We'd love to have you! :)
THANK YOU to everyone who donated to our silent auction basket! It was amazing and it helped raise money for Arrowhead!
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES are coming up November 7th-9th. These days the kiddos will be out of school by NOON so there will be no lunch served at school on these days! SO, if you would like to do snack different on these days I usually let them bring something from home that will fill up their tummies a bit more until they get picked up at lunch time. If you want, you can send a little bit bigger snack for your own kiddo like a yogurt, fruit or dry cereal (just please remember out nut allergy). Or they will still get the snacks we have here at school those days if you decide not to send anything. Totally up to you. :)
**Conference slips went home in your kiddo's Tuesday Folder. Please let me know if you are unable to make it to the time scheduled**

Chapter 3 GO Math books- I will be sending these home. They are totally empty! Chapter 1 and 3 when we are introducing the numbers and writing the numbers I prefer to use other resources to help them practice these skills. This chapter we used whiteboards, counters, counting bears, unifix cubes, and tracing pages to help us reach our goal of counting and writing numbers 6-9 with the review of 0-5. I am sending them home as a resource to you to help your kiddo review what we have learned and to have some extra practice. Your kiddo DOES NOT HAVE to do these, it is just to help if you want.

Manner of the Week: Walk on the right and around people when they are talking.
We had fun learning about bus safety on Wednesday. We got to go on a little bus ride to a church parking lot to practice evacuating the bus! Also, your kiddos ran their hearts out during our Fund Run! Thank you all who donated! It is so appreciated! :) We are going to be learning about bats this week!
I am on an assessment committee for the district. We get together to create assessments that all kindergarten teachers can use across the district so no matter where the kiddos are going to school or if they have to move schools hopefully they will be working on the same skills. For this committee I will have to be out of the classroom a few times. I was already out once. I will be out again this Tuesday. I try to get the same guest teacher if I can to keep some consistency.

Thank you!!
Thank you!!
Welcome!!!
Hello! I am SO excited to get to know all of you this school year! Let me tell you a little bit about me! This is my 12th year teaching, my 9th at Arrowhead. My husband, Josh, and I have a daughter named Dylan (who is 10 months old) and a very spoiled Saint Bernard named Harrison! Fall is my favorite. Not only do I love the colors and the sweatshirt weather but because I'm kind of obsessed with all things pumpkin; pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin bagels, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin cheesecake...you name it! :) Ellen Degeneres is someone I look up to! She is so inspiring! I pretty much wear Chucks everyday! :) I also love music, going to concerts, Harry Potter, the color blue and spending time with family and friends!
This blog is my MAIN SOURCE OF COMMUNICATION!! I will update it weekly with our upcoming learning goals and any other helpful information you may need! Please check it weekly!
SNACK: We will be sharing snacks, but if your kiddo has an allergy please contact me as soon as possible so we can discuss what needs to be done in the classroom!
WATER BOTTLES: In order to continue more time on task I ask that you send a water bottle labeled with your kiddo's name. This will help lesson the time it takes to get drinks from the drinking fountain. They can keep them at school or take them home each day. Your choice!
SUPPLIES: We will have community supplies! That means we will share pencils, glue, etc. So, if you haven't already, that means you only have to put your kiddo's name on their notebook, folders, pencil box, scissors, watercolor paints and headphones!
I hope this helps answer a few questions you may have! I am in my classroom each morning by 7:45 if you need to get a hold of me. I do not answer my phone during instruction time but I check my voicemails right away in the morning, at lunch and after school. I check my email periodically throughout the day but if you have something important, I would call and leave a message!
I look forward to this school year! Please click through the links on the left to learn about what you can find on our blog!!
